Canada is representing this season! American Idol contestant Lauren Spencer-Smith advanced in Hollywood Week on last night's episode. She came to impress judges with a duet alongside her BFF.
The 16-year-old from Nanaimo, BC had her debut on the singing competition series earlier this month.
She blew away all three judges who immediately gave her a golden ticket to Hollywood. A speechless Luke Bryan even took to Twitter afterwards to share that he was still impressed by her singing chops.
Two weeks later, the teen is advancing another step in the competition.
Spencer-Smith shared the news on Instagram last night. She wrote, "All smiles for me and @makaylabrownlee44 because we are going through to round 3 of @americanidol's Hollywood week!! I know the whole song wasn’t aired but I have a full rehearsal video of me and Makayla singing the bathroom which I will post tomorrow !!"
She performed a duet with MaKayla Brownlee, a 17-year-old from Wellington, Kansas, according to Heavy.
In her photo caption, Brownlee announced the news writing, "On to the third round of Hollywood week with my best friend!!! Watch tomorrow night at 7 to see me do my solo round!"
The singers' full performance didn't air on TV but they sang a rendition of Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain".
Spencer-Smith posted a soundless sneak-peek video of her and Brownlee practicing for their performance.
Last week, she also shared that she made it through the first round of Hollywood Week. She wrote, "Me and @gracelundy7 [were] SO relieved to have gotten through the first round of Hollywood week, as well as the rest of our line who went through!!"
The Canadian Press writes that Spencer-Smith's audition happened back in November. You can watch her full audition below.
As pre-taped episodes from Hollywood Week continue to air, the remainder of the live competition is still up in the air.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that "American Idol is on a scheduled production hiatus; continuing to monitor the coronavirus to determine how it may impact production in April."
That would also affect fellow Canadian contestant, Vivian Hicks, a 16-year-old TikTok star from Georgetown, Ontario.
For now, you can follow Spencer-Smith's journey on American Idol every Sunday at 8 p.m. ET on CTV.
