The vibrant film industry in Vancouver means that the city’s streets are often transformed into movie sets and celebrity spottings aren’t uncommon when you’re out and about. This time, though, it was a little different. The filming of The Stand Stephen King TV series in Vancouver produced some absolutely horrifying scenes for anyone that happened upon the area. The filming took place on October 26 and 27, 2019 in Vancouver's downtown on Seymour Street.
The filming was so gruesome that the City of Vancouver released a notice on social media beforehand to warn Vancouverites of the “highly visible graphic content including dead bodies, trash & debris, shouting of coarse language & gunfire.” Naturally, some curious horror lovers and Stephen King fans ventured down to check things out.
If you're not familiar with the book The Stand by Stephen King, it is a post-apocalyptic novel taking place after 99% of the world’s population has been wiped out by a man-made virus. Naturally, it's filled with explicitly gory details, death and ruin, and everything you'd expect from the world-renowned author.
According to Den of Geek!, Josh Boone’s adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand will come to life as a 10-episode series on CBC All Access. Boone will be working as the director in collaborating with Ben Cavell on the script. The two will also be working with Stephen King on the series.
The frightening scene over the weekend in Vancouver was captured by many intrigued passers-by. One photo shows a man hanging from a noose that comes from the ground, seemingly defying gravity altogether.
Another shows an individual behind the wheel of a car who appears to be dead or unconscious. He also has a large growth emerging from his throat and has an unsettling blue-green colour to his skin.
More images show dead bodies strewn about, both inside cars and partially inside cars.
As you can see, not an easy scene to digest. The warning from the City of Vancouver makes a whole lot of sense once you've laid eyes on these photos. Also, if you've ever read a single page of Stephen King's horrors, you knew what you were in for.
The TV series' cast will feature actors like Whoopi Goldberg, Alexander Skarsgard, Heather Graham, James Marsden, Amber Heard, Odessa Young, and more.
With Halloween just days away, there couldn't have been a more fitting time for Vancouver to transform into a post-apocalyptic nightmare. The photos are already giving us nightmares, so we can only imagine what this TV series will be like.
