IMDb has 83 million registered users that depend on the database to provide them with knowledge on everything film and television. From the cast of a movie, production dates, and locations, all the way to ratings generated by fellow users, movie magic is just a Google search away from the public. Now that the year is coming to a close, IMDb has released its annual analytics on best movies & shows in 2019

The top movies of the year mainly consisted of 2019s blockbuster hits with Joker landing its self as number one followed by Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Avengers: Endgame, Captain Marvel, It Chapter Two, The Lion King, Spider-Man: Far From Home, Alita: Battle Angel, Aladdin, and Us

As for TV shows the iconic Game of Thrones slid into the top spot with Chernobyl, Stranger Things, The Umbrella Academy, The Boys, Black Mirror, The Walking Dead, Peaky Blinder, Sex Education, and You

Besides being amongst IMDb's top productions of the year these films and series also have something else in common: a lot of them have important Canadian connections.

It Chapter Two

It Chapter two completely overtook Halloween, after topping the box office week after week, Haloween parties were filled with costume goers dressed as Pennywise and little Georgie.

For Canadians, it's important to note that both part one and two of this story were filmed just outside of Toronto. The made-up town of Derry is actually Oshawa, Ontario.

Not to mention that most of the cast is predominantly Canadian, including Stranger Things Finn Wolfhard.

The Lion King

With the Lion King being an animated Disney film, it was shot and edited in a Los Angeles studio, but there still is an integral Canadian connection.

Vancouver native Seth Rogen starred in the film as Pumbaa alongside Beyonce

Aladdin

This next Disney film paved the way to Hollywood for another Canadian native.

Mena Massoud had never been in another industry production before when he came fresh out of Ryerson University in Toronto and straight onto the red carpet.

The Umbrella Academy

The Umbrella Academy's entire production happened in Toronto and the cast actually just wrapped their second season in the city.

The Netflix series also stars Canadian actress Ellen Page as one of the Hargreeves siblings.

You

This Netflix series had subscribers weary of their phones and social media accounts for weeks after this stalker show was released.

The show's ability to keep their audience all on guard was thanks to its amazing cast including Canadian Shay Mitchell who played the role of Peach.
