If you’re in need of a laugh, Netflix has got your back! This morning, the trailer for #blackAF on Netflix was released and it looks like it will be the perfect mix of Black-ish and Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
The new original series comes from the mind of Kenya Barris, best known for his work on shows like Grown-ish, Mixed-ish, and Black-ish. What sets this new show apart from the others is that it’s filmed in a mockumentary style, and it takes a fictionalized look at Barris’ own life.
#blackAF will have a star-studded cast consisting of Barris himself, Rashida Jones (Parks and Recreation), Genneya Walton (Extant), Iman Benson (Uncle Buck), Justin Claiborne (Reverie), Ravi Cabot-Conyers (Ode to Joy), and newcomer Richard Gardenhire Jr., according to Entertainment Weekly.
If you’re not exactly sure what to expect from the new series, think of KUWTK’s interview segments paired with all the hilarious comedy you’ve seen in Barris’ other shows. Since it’s a Netflix original though, there are fewer network rules to follow, so you may see more out of the box content than what Barris usually delivers.
In #blackAF, Barris’ daughter is making a documentary about her family, who have suddenly come into a great deal of money thanks to her father’s endeavours. The series will navigate how the family reacted to this sudden change, and how they navigate the world with their newfound wealth.
According to Complex, the new series will also feature appearances from Nia Long (Are We There Yet?), Mike Epps (Meet the Blacks), Tyler Perry (A Madea Family Funeral), and Melvin Gregg (American Vandal).
The trailer has only been on YouTube for a while, but viewers are already sharing their excitement for #blackAF.
“This is a need laugh during a bad time in the world. Please Drop this early,” one person commented.
“I’m here for it. Some of the greatest writers this show gonna be fire,” another viewer wrote.
#blackAF is coming to Netflix on April 17. You can check out the trailer for the new comedy series below.
