You'd be surprised at how much of a hot spot Toronto is for television and movie filming, especially in the summer months. This year's big movie was written and is being starred in by Chris Rock! That's right, he'll be in Toronto all summer! He's bringing back a popular franchise that most people would call horrifying. Chris Rock is rebooting the Saw franchise!
An attempt to reboot the horror series was made when Jigsaw came out in 2017, but it flopped at the box office and was only given a 34% on Rotten Tomatoes. Chris Rock is taking a shot at it now.
He's adapting his story into a screenplay that will be directed by Darren Lynn Bousman-the same director who worked on three other Saw movies. Other behind the scenes workers from past Saw movies that will also be helping out on set are executive producer Daniel Heffner and the original creators of the movie James Wan and Leigh Whannel.
Earlier this year when the movie was in pre-production, Chris told reporters that, "I've been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place."
The movie is set to start filming this month, in the next couple of days actually! It doesn't have a title yet but it does have a tentative release date; October 23rd 2020.
Although the movie will follow the same premise of the others, gore, it'll have more of a nostalgic vibe and really get back into the vibe of the first movie.
The movie's interior filming will take place at Pinewood Studios here in Toronto. No other casting news has been made besides Chris Rock himself. We can't wait to see what this production gets up to in Toronto this summer!
