Ready for some out of the box entertainment? Netflix has been known to dabble into strange territory when it comes to their content, but their latest project, a documentary called Circus of Books, is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

The trailer for the upcoming film was released today and introduces viewers to Karen and Barry Mason, a married couple who owned and operated a gay porn repository in Los Angeles for more than three decades.

LA is a city that’s known to be full of eccentric and bold characters, so this news may not seem that outlandish. According to the couple’s daughter though, Karen and Barry were two people who you would never expect to have a hand in the adult film industry.

“It was really weird because my parents were not interesting people—or gay,” Rachel Mason explained in an interview with LA Magazine. “My mom is very type A and very religious and wanted kids and to have a solid family foundation.”

As we learn in the documentary’s trailer, Rachel actually had no idea what sort of business her parents ran until she was in her teens—to the kids of the family, it was always just a “book store”.

Circus of Books was executive produced by Ryan Murphy (best known for his work on Glee, American Horror Story, and The Politician). The film is also Rachel’s documentary debut and allows her to “finally ask the least radical people she knows—her parents–how they became American's biggest distributors of gay porn.”

Apart from the documentary, Murphy also has another exciting project on the way with Netflix. A series called Hollywood, which chronicles the lives of aspiring actors and filmmakers in a post World War II era, is coming to the streamer on May 1.

Netflix has found success with several other documentaries released earlier this year including Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez, Tiger King, and How to Fix a Drug Scandal.

Circus of Books is coming to the streaming service on April 22. You can check out the trailer for the mind-blowing film below.
