Andy Bernard, is that you? As the month of April approaches, streaming services have begun rolling out lists of their upcoming content. From what we’ve seen so far, Coffee and Kareem on Netflix looks like it’ll be a huge hit, particularly with fans of The Office.
Just this morning, Netflix released the trailer for their upcoming cop comedy, Coffee and Kareem. The movie follows a 12-year-old boy named Kareem who hires a criminal to try and scare off his mom’s new boyfriend—police officer James Coffee.
In a twisted turn of events, the unlikely duo will have to work together in order to save themselves, and Kareem’s mom, from the most ruthless drug kingpin in Detroit.
According to the film’s IMDb page, the cast includes Betty Gilpin (GLOW), Taraji P. Henson (Empire), Ed Helms (The Office), David Alan Grier (In Living Color), Chance Hurstfield (A Million Little Things).
As far as Canadian connections go, Alberta’s own Jesse Hutch also stars in Coffee and Kareem. You may recognize him from projects such as Harvest Moon, Joy Ride 3, and A Very Vintage Christmas, among others.
Toronto-born star King Bach is also a part of the Netflix original. The 31-year old has appeared in The Babysitter, Where’s the Money, and To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before.
IMDb also reports that filming for Coffee and Kareem actually took place right here in Canada—in Vancouver, more specifically.
The film’s trailer has been receiving plenty of love from viewers on YouTube so far.
“Thank you Netflix for quality quarantine content,” one person commented.
“Haven’t laughed that much in a trailer for a while,” another viewer said.
There’s so much to look forward to in April, but don’t forget that season three of the hit Netflix original series Ozark is dropping on March 27.
