Netflix Canada Is Crushing Disney+ In The Ongoing Streaming Service War

The streaming service war continues! Four months after the app first became available in Canada, new Disney+ streaming data shows that Netflix is still the more popular option amongst the majority of users.
When Disney+ was, Canadians were incredibly excited about being able to revisit their childhood by watching so many classics from the Disney vault. On top of that, the platform was also going to be the new home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the Star Wars films, and of course, some new original shows and movies.
Of the originals that have premiered so far, the most noteworthy is the Star Wars spin-off, The Mandalorian. The first season of the show received epic reviews, a 95% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a ton of viral memes in honour of one of the internet’s favourite characters of all time— .
The study collected data from 45,000 people who use both Disney+ and Netflix, and it showed that people turn to the latter app more frequently for its constant flow of original content.
Yes, the #1 most-watched show between both platforms is, but the other nine shows on the list all come from Netflix, and six of them ( , , , , , and ) are all Netflix originals.
Cord Cutters News reports that another Disney+ series doesn’t show up on the list again until #24, and that is The Simpsons, which isn’t a Disney+ original.
The Reelgood study also proves that many movie fanatics also use Netflix as their number one resource. Seven of the top 10 most streamed films belong to the OG service, including, , and The Matrix, among others.
The Disney+ films that made the list are Avengers: Endgame, The Avengers, and Star Wars: A New Hope, all of which fall in the bottom half of the list.
According to Fatherly, the newer streaming service still has reason to be optimistic. When more of their highly anticipated original shows (Falcon and the Winter Soldier and Loki) are released, they’ll likely do numbers.
It’s also possible that Disney+ could loosen its content regulations to keep subscribers happy. Most recently, a plethora of people expressed anger that the streaming service is putting it’s highly anticipatedon hold because it wasn’t deemed to be “family-friendly”.
