As far as rap music goes, 2019 was a pretty tame year. Many of the world's most popular artists didn't even release albums over the last 12 months, but from the sounds of things, a few of them have big projects on the way in the new year. One project in particular that people have been looking forward to is Drake's new album and the Canadian rapper teased a release date last night.
Drizzy is never shy about his love for his home city of Toronto, and he loves to show up for his fans in the 6ix whenever possible. Last night, up and coming to rapper DaBaby was playing a show at Rebel when he brought Drake out to the surprise of the audience.
"2018, 2017, I used to watch you rep your city," Drake said to DaBaby. "I used to watch you love your city. And look, we don’t say this to each other enough as rappers but I wanna say congratulations. You’re killing this."
Drake also performed his hit single "Money In The Grave", which got the audience seriously hyped up.
The reaction to this surprise performance was much more welcoming than the one he got at Tyler, the Creator's Camp Flog Gnaw carnival a few weeks back when the audience booed him off stage.
Most fans would be happy enough with the epic surprise performance from Champagne Papi, but the rapper had some big news for his fans.
"I love you with all my heart. I’mma go back to the crib and try to finish this album up so we can turn up in 2020," Drake said, revealing that a new album is in the works.
The Canadian icon's fans are already eagerly tweeting about the news.
"I can’t wait for Drake to drop his new sh*t in 2020," one person tweeted.
"Lord, if we get a new J Cole AND Drake album in 2020- it will make up for this whole boo boo year and the world will be great again," commented another.
Although we don't have an exact date for the upcoming album's release, if Drake's last album Scorpion was any indication, fans can expect some pretty big things from the rapper.
