They'll still be there for you, so don't worry. Friends on Netflix Canada is staying put on the streaming service, at least for now. However, that's not the case for other countries. Tomorrow is the dreaded day where the hit sitcom will be removed from Netflix US.
While here in Canada, fans of the show don't have to worry, fans in the US have dreaded this day for a few months now.
Back in July of this year, Netflix US tweeted, "The One Where We Have To Say Goodbye. We’re sorry to see Friends go to Warner's streaming service at the beginning of 2020 (in The US). Thanks for the memories, gang."
"The One Where We Have To Say Goodbye" is a play off of the titles of each episode.
The show, which rose to fame when it aired in 1994, gained a whole new following when it was made available on Netflix. News broke about Friends being taken off of the streaming site back in 2018, but it was eventually renewed for all of 2019 for a whopping $80 million, according to Vox.
You won't have to live without the show for long if you're in the U.S. The Warner Brothers show is scheduled to appear on the new HBO Max service which will release sometime in 2020.
For us Canadians, we definitely get the good end of the deal, and Twitter users agree. One Twitter user wrote, "As of tomorrow, Canada will have Toys R Us and Friends will still be on Netflix."
Another Twitter user compared what we don't have in Canada to what they do have in the US, and they think having the television classic on Netflix is even better, "living in Canada is better than in the US. Do we have Sears? No. Forever 21? No. Target? No. But friends isn’t leaving Canadian Netflix".
There is no word yet if the show starring Jennifer Aniston, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, David Schwimmer, and Lisa Kudrow will be taken off Netflix Canada if HBO Max becomes available here.
Either way, you don't have to stay in on New Year's Eve to watch Friends one last time.
