Much to the delight of thousands of fans, Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy have finally announced their plans for a massive North American stadium tour next year, during which they will all join together to create one big mega-concert. However, for Canadian fans, the joy was short-lived, as they soon realized there was only one Canadian date on their massive ‘North American’ stadium tour, and it will be in Toronto.
The ‘Hella Mega Tour’ is currently scheduled to hit 20 cities across North America in the summer of 2020, beginning in Seattle and coming to a close in Philadelphia. The tour gets underway in mid-July and will conclude at the end of August, with the artists spending 19 out of 20 dates in the United States.
Much to the disappointment of their fans in Canada, the only Canadian show will take place at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, on August 24.
Following the announcement of the touring information, Canadian fans were quick to criticize the ‘Mega Tour,’ with some people suggesting that having only one date in the country was “alienating” to their non-American fans.
The decision to leave out Canada is a disappointment for Canadian fans, as the Hella Mega Tour is part of a wider worldwide tour by the trio. Green Day, Weezer and Fall Out Boy will also visit the U.K, France, Belgium, Austria, and the Netherlands as part of the tour.
One frustrated Twitter user wrote, "Love that Weezer, Green Day and Fall Out Boy are giving Canada a giant f*ck you by only stopping in TO."
Another added, "Thanks for leaving Canada out again..."
A number of Canadian Twitter users also drew attention to the fact that they were referring to this particular circuit as their “North American” tour. One user wrote, “Don't call it a North American Tour when you forget all of Canada, more to it than just Toronto.”
Another person agreed, adding, "Was so excited to hear that @Weezer @GreenDay & @falloutboy are doing a North American tour only to see they’re only stopping in Toronto. You know there’s way more to Canada than just Toronto, right? Way to alienate your fans. #annoyed."
Along with the tour announcement on Tuesday, each band dropped a new single and announced the release dates of their newest albums.
Despite the lack of Canadain tour dates, some Canadian fans will still be able to enjoy the concert that is sure to be amazing.
Tickets for the Hella Mega Tour will go on sale to the general public on Friday, September 20 at 10 a.m. ET. Full details and further information can be found on the official Hella Mega Tour website.
