Alex Trebek Got So Emotional After “Jeopardy” Contestant Left A Love Note For Him
He really is one of the most beloved Canadians
People of all generations can probably agree that Jeopardy is one of the best shows on TV. The show would not be the same if it didn't have the Canadian host we all know and adore, Alex Trebek. He's been in the news a lot lately for his recent pancreatic cancer diagnosis and the internet immediately rallied together to send love and support. But right now, grab your tissues because Jeopardy's Alex Trebek got emotional from a love note a contestant wrote for him and honestly, we did too.
The Jeopardy Twitter account posted the video last night. It featured a heartfelt moment from the "Final Jeopardy" round where contestants play to win the game.
One of the contestants named Dhruv Gaur didn't know the answer to the question but decided to take the opportunity to send love to Alex in a time when he needs it most.
The correct answer to the question should've been "Other Half Lives." But instead, Gaur wrote "What is we love you Alex" putting in a little heart to stand for the word "love."
Trebek immediately choked up after reading out Gaur's response and said, "That's very kind, thank you" before reading out how much the wrong answer cost Gaur.
Gaur also took to Twitter to explain what was going through his mind when he sacrificed $1,995 to send a heartfelt message to Trebek.
He said that Trebek had just shared the news that he was "reentering treatment for pancreatic cancer". One of Guar's tweets in the four-part thread said, "When Final Jeopardy came up, I could’ve tried to puzzle it together, but really, just kept thinking about Alex, and thought he should know."
Twitter users flooded the comments on Jeopardy's video with kind words to Trebek, with some writing that Trebek wasn't the only one who got emotional.
One user wrote, "Didn’t expect to need tissue watching final #Jeopardy tonight! #WeLoveYouAlex #AlexTrebek"
And another person tweeted, "We really do love you Alex! I have watched you, every night since I was a child. Now my 8 and 9 yr old watch you with my husband and I. So much love and respect for you. God bless".
In March of this year, Trebek shared that he got diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer and was determined to beat the very low survival rates. The first rounds of chemotherapy went exceptionally well and he was hoping to put the cancer into full remission.
But, as we recently learned, Trebek is currently back in chemotherapy and the positivity and love his fans are sending him is definitely well needed during this tough time.
