Now that the holiday season is over, you still have three long months of winter to get too before you can get back to soaking up the sun and spending your days outside. A favourite pastime for many during the chilly season is curling up inside and watching shows and movies, and if you happen to fall into that category, you'll absolutely love Locke & Key on Netflix Canada.
Earlier today, the streaming service released a new trailer for an upcoming series about a group of three siblings who, after the untimely murder of their father, move into his former home where they uncover some magical keys that give them unique powers and abilities.
The show definitely has a mystical and magical childhood element that some people in the comments have compared to the likes of The Chronicles of Narnia, but it also has an eerie and spooky feel to it that can be compared to another hit Netflix original — The Haunting of Hill House.
Locke & Key stars Jackson Robert Scott (It), Emilia Jones (Residue), Griffin Gluck (Tall Girl), Darby Stanchfield (Scandal), as well as homegrown Canadian actors Connor Jessup (Falling Skies), and Laysla De Oliveira (In the Tall Grass).
As it turns out, the show was even filmed right here in Canada as well. Principal photography for the show's first season took place in Toronto, Ontario from February 11 to July 5 of 2019.
The series is based on a collection of graphic novels by the same name by Joe Hill, so if you're particularly interested in the show, reading those could be a great place to start.
Netflix also released the trailer for its upcoming film Uncut Gems today, which is generating a lot of buzz for the platform. As far as the streaming service wars go, it looks like the OG app is still holding onto the top spot.
Locke & Key hits Netflix on February 7. You can check out the mystical and creepy trailer for the new series below.
