Netflix's New Show Tells The Hilarious & Heartwarming Tale Of Canadian Comedian Mae Martin
"Feel Good" is coming to Netflix on March 19.
Over the years, Netflix has released original content from almost every genre you can think of. Their most recent project is a collaboration with a Canadian comedian, and from the looks of the trailer, Mae Martin’s Netflix series will be both hilarious and heartwarming.
According to her IMDb, Martin was born in Toronto but relocated to the UK in 2011. She began performing comedy at the age of 13 and even trained at Second City, which has also introduced big names like , , and Tina Fey to the comedy world.
The 32-year-old’s latest project is a show called Feel Good, which is based loosely off of Martin’s real life. The series synopsis on YouTube reads, “Mae Martin stars as herself, a Canadian comedian living in London, navigating a relationship with her new girlfriend, George and dealing with sobriety.”
In the trailer, we see Martin performing stand-up in a bar, making stereotypical Canadian jokes. “I’m from Canada. I came over in a canoe recently, with Celine Dion,” she says.
She can’t help but notice a girl in the audience who’s been to her shows before—George. The two get to talking and quickly find themselves falling for one another.
George and Mae find themselves in a pretty serious relationship, but it doesn’t take long before the secrets of her struggle with addiction catch up with her, putting her relationship on the rocks.
British Comedy Guide reports that the series also stars Charlotte Ritchie (Fresh Meat), Sophie Thompson (Four Weddings and a Funeral), Lisa Kudrow (Friends), Adrian Lukis (Pride and Prejudice), and Phil Burgers (Our Time), among others.
According to Radio Times, the upcoming series will consist of just six episodes that follow Mae as she navigates not only her relationship with George, but also with her parents, fellow recovering addicts, and friends.
