Good news for fans of The Haunting of Hill House — the show’s esteemed director, Mike Flanagan, has a new series on the way called Midnight Mass on Netflix. Flanagan has been hard at work on the Hill House sequel, The Haunting of Bly Manor, but when that wraps up, his new project will be getting underway.
TVLine broke the news in July of 2019, sharing that Flanagan’s latest project would be a seven-episode horror series. While some Netflix originals have come to fruition thanks to the inspiration of comic books, it’s been made clear that Midnight Mass is not at all based on John Rozum’s Midnight, Mass.
According to TV Over Mind, the new series takes place on an isolated island community. After a mysterious clergyman arrives in town, some begin witnessing some “rather unsettling phenomena.”
Although there’s no trailer yet, based on Flanagan’s work on The Haunting of Hill House, his next collaboration with Netflix is sure to keep audiences on the edge of their seats.
Both Hill House and Bly Manor were filmed in Vancouver, and the director is keeping the location consistent for his upcoming horror series. According to What’s Filming, principal photography for Midnight Mass will begin in the area on March 16 and wrap up in July of this year.
According to Variety, Flanagan will be working alongside Hill House alum Trevor Macy on this new project as a part of the duo’s multi-year deal with Netflix to produce a variety of TV shows and movies.
Production for The Haunting of Bly Manor officially began in October of 2019 according to Pop Buzz, and although there’s no official release date yet, the series is expected to debut on Netflix sometime in 2020.
Be sure to keep an eye out for actors in creepy costumes throughout the city from March to July — they just might be working on Midnight Mass.
