We dedicate years of our lives to TV shows that speak to us in a special way. Tuning in once a year for a super intense 24-hour binge watch is something we look forward to. Orange Is the New Black was one of those shows, and now that those six years and seven seasons are over we're left with nothing. Luckily for us, that's not exactly true. Netflix Canada offers so many shows that are almost identical to the stories of our favorite inmates. Here are Netflix shows that are similar to Orange Is the New Black

Russian Doll

Rating: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes

Russian Doll is about Nadia, who finds herself repeatedly reliving a party in New York City. Each time she attends the party she dies. The first season follows her attempts at figuring out what is going on.

Although the concept of the show is completely different from Orange Is the New Black, this is the perfect show for someone who fell in love with the shows cast. The show stars Natasha Lyonne as Nadia who was also Nicky Nichols on OITNB.

Season one was released on Netflix earlier this year!

Wentworth

Rating: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes

In Wentworth, we learn the truths of how the prison system works through Bea Smith. Bea is waiting for her court date after being charged with the attempted murder of her husband.

This show is SUPER similar to Orange Is the New Black. It deals with the woman's prison system and letting us into a setting that isn't discussed much, something OITNB also did very well. The only difference is we see the workings of the jail system in Australia rather than America in this show.

Six of the seven seasons are streaming on Netflix now!

Jailbirds

Rating: 7.1/10 on IMDb

Jailbirds is probably the most similar show to Orange Is the New Black but it's a reality show. It follows the lives of women living in the Sacramento County Jail.

If you've ever wanted to know if the Orange Is the New Black storylines are realistic this is your chance!

Women Behind Bars

Rating: 6.7/10 on IMDb

This show is similar to Jailbirds in that it's based on true stories but instead of real-time happenings, Women Behind Bars has women account their past horror stories while being in jail.

Three seasons are streaming on Netflix Canada now!

Shameless (US)

Rating: 90% on Rotten Tomatoes

If you haven't heard of Shameless, you're definitely missing out. Shameless follows a family living in poverty in West Chicago. Their father is a drunk forcing the oldest of six kids, Fiona, to care for her siblings, her father, and the house.

While Shameless doesn't directly deal with the prison system, the show touches upon the discrepancies in the prison system and police force, especially for minorities.

It also doesn't hurt that the writers of these two shows have very similar humor techniques. While there are nine seasons, Netflix currently has eight up and streaming.

Weeds

Rating: 70% on Rotten Tomatoes

Weeds follows a widow and now single mom who can only maintain her previous lifestyle by selling marijuana to her neighbors.

While the show is a comedy and for the most part has nothing to do with jail, it can serve as a prequel to some of the women we find in Orange Is the New Black. Some of those women were in prison because they had to do what they got arrested for to survive and support their children.
