The four-part series just dropped today.
It's girl power time! Netflix Canada's Self Made: Inspired by the Life of Madam C.J. Walker just dropped today and is a must-watch. It will give you that little bit of inspiration you need during these difficult times.
The four-part limited series stars Octavia Spencer and Tiffany Hadish opposite Carmen Ejogo, Blair Underwood, Garrett Morris, Kevin Carroll, and Bill Bellamy.
It's based on the 2001 biography On Her Own Ground written by A'Lelia Bundles. It tells the story of businesswoman Madam C. J. Walker, who overcame plenty of obstacles in order to introduce black hair care products to a market that desperately needed them.
According to IMDb, the series was produced entirely in Ontario with filming locations in St. Catharines, Cambridge, and Toronto. It took a period of two months between July and September 2019.
The Help star Octavia Spencer plays the role of Sarah Breedlove, "who takes on the name and the persona of Madam C.J.", per Variety.
Sarah discovers the "transformational power of hair regrowth" and her life changes when she meets a girl named Addie. She has her own line of products for hair regrowth aimed at girls with different hair than Sarah, who's just not the model she's looking for.
Using her business mogul skills, Sarah embarks to create her own hair growth product that people who look like her can also use and benefit from.
Sarah went on with her business to become the first self-made millionaire ever.
Many Twitter users who have already dipped their toes into the inspiring drama recommend others watch it too.
