If you're not familiar with the work of Ryan Murphy, I'm here to let you know that you absolutely need to add his diverse roster of shows into your life immediately. Murphy is the brains behind some of my favourite shows like Glee, American Horror Story, and Scream Queens, and now the American screenwriter has teamed up with Netflix in hopes of bringing yet another captivating story to life. The trailer for this new show was announced a few months back, and since then, people have been incredibly excited about its release. The series finally came out today, but it's not exactly what people were hoping for. Netflix Canada's The Politician is receiving seriously mixed reviews on Twitter.
Murphy's new series, called The Politician, made its Netflix debut in the early hours of September 27. The series stars plenty of former AHS and Glee actors, like Jessica Lange and Gwyneth Paltrow, but also includes other noteworthy talents such as Ben Platt and Zoey Deutch, just to name a few.
Murphy's work is usually pretty good, and the trailer for The Politician looked promising, so a few Netflix users have already begun binge-watching the show, and so far the reviews are quite mixed. The series has so far scored a 58% on Rotten Tomatoes, which is quite low compared to Murphy's other series (American Horror Story is sitting at 77%, and Glee scored a 71%).*
"I was excited to start watching The Politician on @Netflix but once I started watching it I'm disappointed--why do so many shows today (especially those about young people)have to be filled with dark, twisted, self-absorbed characters? There's no humanity to this show whatsoever," tweeted one disappointed viewer. "The Politician on Netflix is??? so fucking weird??? all the characters are ridiculous and the plot seems like it’s straight out of a 2013 fanfic," added another.
Of course, like anything in life, there are some people with a totally opposing opinion. They're saying that The Politician is some of Netflix's best content and that they plan to binge the entire series over the coming weekend.
One fan of the show tweeted, "Watching The Politician on Netflix and I’m: obsessed". Another Twitter user also complimented the show, saying, "The politician on Netflix is SO funny and I’m only 2 episodes in".
All eight episodes of The Politician are now available on Netflix for your streaming pleasure. If you're lacking plans this weekend, now you know exactly what you should be binge-watching! You can check out the trailer for the new original series below.
