The handmaids are back in Canada! The Handmaid's Tale season four production began in Brantford, Ontario and lucky for us, they’ve been spotted. Setup equipment was noticed by a couple of keen-eyed Twitter users.
According to the City of Toronto's website, filming officially began on March 2 and will run until August 7.
The past three seasons have been filmed in Ontario, per IMDb. That includes locations at the St. Lawrence Market, Cambridge and Toronto City Halls, Fairmont Royal York, and tons more that you could totally visit.
The fourth season will take the show's star Elisabeth Moss and her castmates to similar areas in Ontario. So keep your eyes peeled for faces including Yvonne Strahovski, Amanda Brugel, Madeline Brewer, Max Minghella, and Samira Wiley.
The Brantford Public Library Twitter account caught an awesome shot yesterday as set up on the series began. They wrote, "How cool is this! New episodes of The #handmaidstale are being filmed right across the street from our Main branch!"
Another Twitter user alerted the What's Filming account that there was a "Big production downtown Brantford! I believe handmaid's tale. Spotted March 3."
Last month, user Josh Robins tweeted out, "Anyone wondering The [Handmaid's] Tale s4 will be starting March 2 under code name Phoenix."
Moss, who executive produces and stars as June Osborne, posted on Instagram that prep for season four officially began this week.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Moss "is set to make her directorial debut" on the third episode of the new season.
She reportedly said, "Leading and executive producing this show the past 3 years has been such a joy and I’ve had the incredible gift of learning so much from the directors we’ve had on this show. I can’t wait to try my hand at working with my collaborators from this new perspective because I am lucky to have the best cast and crew in the world."
Inverse claims that there will only be 10 episodes this time around, as opposed to the normal 13. That's because creator Bruce Miller told IndieWire that "Some storylines just seem to shake out as a 10-episode story, in my eyes...It gives us a little more freedom because you can rely more on one propulsive element."
There's no set release date yet but Inverse writes that season four will come slightly later in fall 2020. Previous seasons premiered in the spring or summertime.
