Rebel Wilson’s 2020 Oscars Outfit Was Created By A Fashion Designer From Vancouver
It's absolutely stunning!
The 92nd Annual Academy Awards are currently underway in Los Angeles. Tonight is a time for the biggest celebs to join under one roof and honour each other's accomplishments in film. Though not too many Canadian stars attended this year's show, there is representation for Canada because Rebel Wilson's 2020 Oscars dress was designed by Vancouverite Jason Wu.
The Pitch Perfect star shared an Instagram video with her "bestie" Carly Steel sharing that she's wearing a custom gown by Wu. The floor-length sparkly champagne gown was paired with "vintage jewelry" by Pomellato.
Wu was born in Taiwan and raised in Vancouver according to Brittanica. It was there that a fashion student hired by his mother taught him "the art of pattern cutting and sewing". His website notes he's currently based in New York.
Brittanica noted that Wu created his self named brand in 2006. Three years later, Michelle Obama wore one of his designs to President Barack Obama's inauguration which required "100 hours of workmanship". She wore his pieces on multiple other occasions after that and helped amp up his success.
Wu's website lists others he's designed for including "Reese Witherspoon, Julianne Moore, Diane Kruger, Liu Wen and Christy Turlington, amongst many others." His ready to wear line includes dresses, sweaters, skirts, outwear, and more. He also has a line of fragrances.
Wilson presented an award alongside James Corden but unfortunately didn't arrive on stage in her design by Wu. Instead, she and her Cats co-star were suited up in cat costumes that were a hilarious hit.
During the ceremony, she shared snaps with the dreamy Brad Pitt featuring her sparkling gown.
On her Instagram story, she shared a shot of her beside Little Women star Timothée Chalamet.
According to the Oscars website, Wilson wasn't up for any awards tonight.
