Dan Levy came up with the idea for the show while watching Keeping Up with the Kardashians

In a 2015 interview with Out, Levy revealed that he first came up with the idea for Schitt's Creek while watching an episode of KUWTK

"I had been watching some reality TV at the time and was concentrating on what would happen if one of these wealthy families would lose everything. Would the Kardashians still be the Kardashians without their money?"

Catherine O'Hara couldn't stop laughing when David and Moira were selling Allez-Vous makeup

During an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, O'Hara revealed that the time she laughed the hardest onset was during episode eight of the show's first season when Moira and David were selling the infamous Allez-Vous Cosmetics.

You may remember that during this particular scene, David's face was covered in an obnoxious orange bronzer, which caused O'Hara to crack up while filming.

"A Little Bit Alexis" was inspired by Britney Spears' "Work B*tch"

When talking to UPROXX, Annie Murphy revealed that when writing "A Little Bit Alexis", she and her friends listened to a ton of Britney Spears—most notably, "Work B*tch".

When she first showed the song to Levy, she worried he would hate it, but was pleasantly surprised to get the opposite reaction from her co-star.

“I was like, ‘Oh, f*ck. He’s going to give this job to Noah instead.’ And then he just wrote back, ‘I’m obsessed with this.’ Which is kind of the highest form of flattery from Dan.”

Chris Elliot wears a prosthetic to give Roland Schitt his iconic belly

Perhaps one of the loudest and proudest characters on Schitt's Creek is none other than the mayor himself, Roland Schitt. In order to give his character that iconic belly, Chris Elliot wears a prosthetic stomach piece.

It's also worth noting that the wig Elliot wears when playing Roland is the same one that the actor wore when filming the 1994 film Cabin Boy.

Alexis only says 'Ew, David!' three times

Alexis' "Ew, David!" may be one of the most iconic catchphrases heard on Schitt's Creek, but as it turns out, it's only repeated three times throughout the entire series.

According to Decider, Alexis says "David!" a total of 224 times throughout the first five seasons, which may be why the phrase stuck with fans.

The "Roadkill" episode was inspired by events from Eugene Levy's childhood

CBC reports that the "Roadkill" episode (season 5, episode 10) of Schitt's Creek was actually based on a childhood experience of Eugene Levy's when he found his friend's cat lying dead on the sidewalk.

Apparently, Levy picked up the cat's body, walked it over to his pal's doorstep, and proceeded to hand it to him, as if that was the normal thing to do.
