Calling all teen drama fans! Earlier today, a trailer was released for Selah and The Spades on Amazon Prime, and from the looks of things, the new movie will be a big hit with lovers of shows like Gossip Girl and Dare Me.

As per the description on YouTube, the new Amazon Prime original is set at an elite Pennsylvania boarding school, where 17-year-old Selah Summers is the leader of the most dominant clique—the Spades.

The Spades may seem like your average school spirit squad at first glance, but behind the scenes, they’re actually distributing highly coveted illegal alcohol and drugs to the rest of the student body.

As tensions between the school’s cliques begin to rise, Selah’s best friend and right hand, Maxxie, finds herself distracted by a new love interest. In hopes of maintaining her squad’s power, Selah recruits a sophomore named Paloma who she can teach to be a leader.

As graduation looms, Selah suddenly finds herself threatened by Paloma’s newfound power, and at risk of losing the popularity that she’s used so long to define herself.

The film explores the intense politics of teenage drama, and exactly how addicting power can be for young teenage girls.

Selah and The Spades stars Lovie Simone (All Rise), Jharrel Jerome (Moonlight), Celeste O'Connor (Ghostbusters: Afterlife), Ana Mulvoy Ten (The Girl in the Book), and Jesse Williams (Grey’s Anatomy), among others.

Since the film tackles issues like teen drama, drug use, and complicated relationships, it’s comparable to Gossip Girl, or the latest Netflix series Dare Me.

Selah and The Spades first premiered at TIFF’s New Wave Film Festival in 2019, but it will land on Amazon Prime on April 17, according to Coming Soon.
