Canada has churned out quite a few of the entertainment industry's favourite celebrities including Ryan Reynolds, Keanu Reeves, and Jim Carrey to name a few. The impact of Canadians in Hollywood is important in order to put Canada on the map and gain recognition for our country. Luckily, the world has taken note as Seth Rogen and Dwayne Johnson made "The Most Powerful People In Entertainment 2019" list.
The Hollywood Reporter released the list this month highlighting 100 people who have influence and power in Hollywood. It included a large portion of actors with various backgrounds, but also highlighted CEOs, chairmen, directors, and producers in the entertainment industry.
Vancouver's Seth Rogen placed number 78, alongside Evan Goldberg, and they were recognized for their role as directors on Amazon's The Boys. Rogen was surpassed by Dwayne Johnson, who gets his Canadian citizenship from his Nova Scotian father and placed number 45 on the list.
Rogen is best known for his roles in Pineapple Express, Superbad, The Lion King, and the Neighbours franchise co-starring the hunky Zac Efron. The Hollywood Reporter shared that, "Looking ahead, Rogen sets a goal of 'obtaining more power'", which we can assume was followed by his iconic laugh.
Rogen recently posted a photo at The Lion King premiere with Beyoncé, who surprisingly didn't make the list.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson has "more than 20 other projects in the pipeline", citing the sequel to Jumanji premiering this December. He's been an actor since the late '90s and originally got his start as a famous wrestler, where he claimed his nickname "The Rock". Since then, Johnson has starred in tons of Hollywood films, accumulating a $280 million net worth according to Wealthy Gorilla. Some of his best movies include Jumanji, Moana, Central Intelligence, and Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
Johnson posted an Instagram photo recognizing his nomination and wrote, "Stuff like this is cool and it’s nice to be important, but it’s more important to be nice."
People who Johnson placed ahead of include Quentin Tarantino in 55th place, Barack and Michelle Obama in 50th place, and Leonardo DiCaprio in 47th place. Ellen DeGeneres placed at number 44, one place ahead of him.
Kevin Hart, Johnson's good friend and co-star in Central Intelligence and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, came in at number 73.
Those who placed higher than both Johnson and Rogen include Jordan Peele at number 42, Tyler Perry at number 38, Reese Witherspoon at number 37, Grey's Anatomy creator Shona Rhimes at number 33, and Oprah Winfrey at number 15.
And other notable people on the list include Tiffany Haddish at number 97, Zendaya at number 95, Jennifer Lopez at number 92, Lin-Manuel Miranda at number 89, and Will Smith at number 81.
First place was awarded to Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
