Shawn Mendes Is Actually In A Popular Netflix Show & You Probably Had No Idea
He was in one episode of a drama sci-fi series!
Check out these acting chops! The Canadian heartthrob is best known for belting out tunes, but Shawn Mendes on The 100 shows him dipping his toes into acting. His musical talents also made an appearance in the episode, so it's a two for one bonus!
The 21-year-old from Pickering has three albums and dozens of songs under his belt, but according to his IMDb page, he has a few acting stints on his resume too.
In 2016, Mendes played Macallan in season three, episode one of The 100, titled "Wanheda: Part 1".
IMDb writes that the episode's plot follows Clarke "after leaving Camp Arkadia due to her inability to accept her actions" where she "sets out on her own, dealing with her emotions while encountering new challenges."
Mendes' full scene in the episode was posted by a user onto YouTube and opens on him browsing through jewellery near characters Raven Reyes and Gina Martin.
As Macallan picks up a piece and goes to walk away, Raven quickly grabs hold of his arm and says, "not so fast."
In comes Gina who declares, "I say we float him" to which Macallan responds, "come on, what do you guys want for it?"
"One song," Raven replies.
Macallan walks over to a piano conveniently plopped nearby and begins to play while belting out a tune.
Singing the track titled "Day After Day", Mendes' voice continues in the background for the rest of the scene as it follows other characters facing various situations.
The CW series is currently in its seventh season, all of which are available for streaming on Netflix.
IMDb claims that the plot of the drama sci-fi is set "ninety-seven years after a nuclear war has destroyed civilization, when a spaceship housing humanity's lone survivors sends one hundred juvenile delinquents back to Earth, in hopes of possibly re-populating the planet."
On Rotten Tomatoes, impressed audiences gave the series an 81% rating, with a 92% score on the Tomatometer.
Mendes' small role in The 100 was preceded by a voice role as young Jake in Underdogs in 2013 and as Shawn in the TV series The Vamps: Takeover in 2014.
