Shazam! was huge for the DC Universe following its release earlier this year. Not only did fans love it, but the superhero comedy was loved even by critics. Now with its impressive 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, Warner Brothers have revealed an upcoming sequel that will again star Zachary Levi. Canada played a huge role in the success of the first film, as production was in Toronto, and with the announcement of it returning to the big screen, Shazam! 2 filming in Toronto should be starting really soon.

The big reveal came this past weekend in Brazil at the Comic Con Experience convention

It was announced to a crowd of booming fans who were patiently waiting for the DC superhero panel that was promised.

If you remember, Shazam! follows 14-year-old Billy Batson who only needs to shout "Shazam" in order to transform into an adult hero. He soon realizes that his powers aren't all fun and games and he must master them in time to defeat Dr. Thaddeus Sivana.

It wasn't a complete shock that there was a sequel coming, just a few months back there were reports that the script for part 2 was already in the works.

The news is still pretty fresh though, meaning that fans haven't been given much info on production dates.

There's yet to even be a tentative release date. However, Levi did confirm that production could begin as early as summer 2020.

That means the Shazam! cast will be taking over Canada's Hollywood North next summer.

If production continues much as it did for the first film, Warner Brothers will be returning to Pinewood Studios in Toronto for the majority of the film.

Exterior shots also included iconic Toronto locations like the University of Toronto campus and Woodbine Mall.
