We’re living in a time where there is so much content being produced for screen, that to be able to pick between what’s good and what’s bad is really hard. Sources like Rotten Tomatoes are my best friend when it comes to choosing my next binge. There are more highly rated TV shows than you think. To start you off on your hunt, here are 7 shows on Netflix Canada that got 90% on Rotten Tomatoes.

This list will help you start you on your way through navigating the best of what Netflix has to offer us Canadians.

Stranger Things

Type: Sci-fi

If you haven't heard of Stranger Things, this is the series responsible for all the new shows and movies being released that are centering themselves around a nostalgic 80’s vibe. You've also probably heard of their iconic cast of kids.

Stranger Things is exactly what it sounds like. It's a sci-fi show centered around a group of children dealing with the disappearance of one of their friends, government conspiracies, and supernatural forces, that all seem to be connected to this girl who shows up to town.

Season 3 premieres on July 4th. It's the perfect time to catch up in time for this summer!

The Good Place

Type: Comedy

The Good Place is probably one of the most unique shows that's out there right now. Not only for its story but for their cast that includes Kristen Bell and Ted Danson. This series is so simple but genius at the same time!

The show starts off with Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell) waking up in an office that she later discovers is called, The Good Place (heaven). She realizes that the runners of the afterlife somehow made a mistake and that she actually belongs in The Bad Place. Eleanor recruits other inhabitants to help her become morally good hoping that Michael (Ted Danson), the angel thats in charge, doesn't notice.

The Good Place currently has 3 seasons and will be back with a 4th in the fall!

Black Mirror

Type: Scifi

This is probably the weirdest and most bizarre show on this list, and honestly probably on Netflix.

Black Mirror is a British made series that focuses on a different story each episode. The show is a critique on modern technology and the writers show us how this technology can backfire on the human race. This show is perfect for someone who doesn't want to commit to a longterm storyline.

Season 5 premieres on Netflix Canada June 5th so this is another show worth binging before they release new episodes!

THE END OF THE F***ING WORLD

Type: Dark Comedy

The End of the F***ing World is not as popular as some of the other series on this list but it is QUALITY content.

This is also a Britsh show that's actually based off of a graphic novel. It's about a boy named James, who thinks he's a psychopath, meeting a girl named Alyssa. Alyssa has a hard family life and sees James and his life as a way to escape her abusive family.

This show is only 8 episodes. Perfect for someone looking for a quick watch!

Timeless

Type: Drama/Sci-fi

Timeless had a rough run on network television. It was canceled after season 2 but the fanbase petitioned for there to be a season 3 and they won. All three seasons now live on Netflix!

Timeless focuses on a criminal hijacking a time machine and changing the past in order to alter American history. The government puts together a team made up of a scientist, soldier, and historian in order to track him down. They are given their own time machine and have to survive in the settings of historical (and dangerous) events all while trying to track down and stop this criminal.

The Crown

Type: Historical Drama

The perfect show for a historian, or anyone that's obsessed with the Royal Family like I am.

The Crown is a historically accurate retelling of the life of Queen Elizabeth the second. From the death of her father to her coronation, and even the upbringing of her children. Anyone who tells you that the Royal Family doesn't have any drama is lying and this show will prove it.

Season 3 is set to air on Netflix Canada this year!

The Haunting of Hill House

Type: Horror

I feel like the whole world was obsessed with The Haunting of Hill House at some point in the last few months. If you don't like scary, this series isn't for you.

This show follows five siblings both in their adult life and childhood. During their childhood together they lived in a home with bizarre supernatural occurrences. These flashbacks all eventually lead us to the event that caused them to flee their home. It also explains their trauma during adulthood.
