Get ready to have your mind blown! Just last week, a new film called The Platform on Netflix began catching the attention of streaming service subscribers everywhere. After watching the Spanish horror film, viewers have been taking to Twitter to share their thoughts on the disturbing story.

If you haven’t yet seen the movie, The Platform takes place in a prison where inmates live two to a floor. This is no ordinary prison though—it’s actually one giant room where those incarcerated can see who lives above and below them.

Every day, a giant stone makes its way down the centre of each cell. In the beginning, it’s loaded full of food, but by the time it reaches the cells on the bottom, all that’s left are inedible scraps and broken dishes. The stone only stays on each level for about a minute, so prisoners are forced to hoard as much food as they can before it moves on for the day.

The film’s main character, Goreng, is actually not a prisoner at all, but rather a volunteer who signed up for the program in hopes of earning an accredited degree. As it turns out, Gorend really had no idea what he had signed himself up for, and things between prisoners turn bloody pretty quickly.

The Platform was added to Netflix on Friday, March 20, but it’s already received an 83% certified fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Plenty of viewers have taken to Twitter to share their thoughts on the haunting tale.

“If you can handle gruesome hack-n-slash and cannibalism, I recommend watching the movie The Platform on Netflix. It provides a much-needed metaphor for what we're going through with hoarding/stockpiling during the pandemic. And emphasizes that change rarely happens sporadically," one person tweeted.

“Just watched The Platform because it was number one on Netflix this week and I only got through half of the movie and sh- I AM TRAUMATISED,” commented another.

The Platform isn’t the only new addition to make waves on Netflix recently—the true-crime docu-series Tiger King has also been blowing the minds of viewers.

If you’re not entirely sold on the new Spanish horror movie, be sure to check out the chilling trailer below.
