I don't know about you guys, but I'm the kind of person who has a really hard time finding TV shows that I ACTUALLY like. A lot of shows will start out with strong potential, but then the plot falls apart, the actors get annoying, or the show gets canceled. Luckily, Netflix has a neverending stream of new content coming out, and their newest show looks so addicting. The Politician on Netflix Canada is the perfect Glee and American Horror Story mashup.
Now, if you've seen either of those shows, you may be thinking to yourself, "Glee and American Horror Story are nothing alike." You're 100% right but bear in mind that both shows are amazing in their own way and they were both created by none other than Ryan Murphy, who's also the brains behind The Politician.
Similar to AHS, The Politician will be an anthology series, meaning that every season will feature the same cast (for the most part, with some occasional switch-ups), but will tell a story about a different political race. Much like Glee, The Politician will also take us all back to our awkward high school days and address some very important issues while keeping the humor light and fun.
Murphy has brought back some of his favourite alumni for this series including Jessica Lange who was a series regular on AHS, and Gwyneth Paltrow who had a stint on Glee. Other notable actors in the show include Ben Platt, Zoey Deutch, Bette Midler, and Judith Light.
The first season of the show is centered around a high school election for student body president. Payton Hobart (played by Platt) is running in the race, and you can tell from his ambitions of being President of the United States one day that he's taking the election QUITE seriously. Because of his immense dedication, things get ugly for Hobart, and fast.
The Politician will be available for streaming on Netflix as of September 27. Murphy is also set to produce another series called Hollywood for Netflix, although no release date or trailer has been announced yet. You can check out The Politician's trailer below.
