Ryan Murphy is at it again! Just weeks after the release of his latest project Hollywood, Netflix has announced that The Politician season two will be coming to the streaming service soon. The show's first season dropped late last year, and viewers have been anxiously awaiting a followup ever since.

If you're not familiar, the freshman season of the Netflix original series followed Payton Hobart, a wealthy student who, since the tender age of seven, has aspired to be the President of the United States.

During the first edition, we saw Payton try to navigate the complicated landscape of high school politics as he landed himself in a world of trouble for teaming up with a highly controversial running mate.

According to Deadline, season two will see Payton as he tries to "unseat Dede Standish (Judith Light) in the New York State Senate race."

"As a long-time incumbent and greatly admired Senate Majority Leader with no-nonsense Chief of Staff, Hadassah Gold (Bette Midler) at her side, Dede’s re-election was supposed to be easy, but Payton — who sees this as the next step on his path to the presidency — must decide what kind of politician he ultimately wants to be in order to succeed, even if that means exposing secrets, lies, and a throuple."

According to Entertainment Weekly, the upcoming season will consist of seven episodes that were completed prior to the shut down of film sets all around the world.

In an interview with Collider, Murphy revealed that after the latest episodes hit Netflix, he may wait a few years before beginning production on season three.

"I think where season 2 ends, what I would love to do is take a couple of years off and have Ben Platt get a little bit older for his final race," the executive producer said.

"That would obviously be a presidential race, right? That’s always what we had designed, and I think that’s what our plan is."

The streaming service has been making plenty of major announcements lately.

Two popular original shows, 13 Reasons Why and The Umbrella Academy have also recently revealed that they'll be returning with new episodes this summer.

Season two of The Politician will be coming to Netflix on Friday, June 19. In the meantime, be sure to stream Murphy's latest addition to the site — Hollywood.
