While Canada isn't known to host award shows as big as the MTV VMAs or Teen Choice Awards, there was always a summer event that we felt put us on the map. Seeing the camera pan up and know that the Toronto skyline was being broadcasted around the world was a special feeling. The iHeartRadio Much Music Video Awards is something Canada looked forward to each summer but it doesn't look like Toronto will be hosting the event this year. The iHeartRadio MMVAs in Toronto was canceled and everyone is pretty disappointed.

While it may not be the biggest award show out there, it featured artists like Ed Sheeran, Drake, and The Jonas Brothers and was televised internationally. What's also so special about the MMVAs is that it takes place outside and the audience is made up completely of fans. It's literally an outdoor concert with some of the top artists. Did I mention wristbands to the event are completely FREE?

Earlier this year Bell Media announced that there was a struggle when it came time to schedule the 2019 iHeartRadio MMVAs. Because of the scheduling conflicts, they said it's very likely the show won't go on until next summer.

The president of Bell Media explained that the day that they had chosen was one day before the MTV VMA's and he didn't think it was, "smart" to continue with the show;

“You’ve got to fish where the fish are, and in terms of getting artists, when you’ve got an MTV awards the very next day, you’re not going to get what you need. So for this year we’re going to delay it a bit.”

It doesn't help that with Canadian weather, the only way to move ahead with the award show is if we can find a date that's warm enough for artists and guests to be outdoors for long periods of time.

There were also scheduling issues last year although not as complicated. The usual June award show was pushed back until mid-August in order to accommodate certain talent.

It's probably for the best that they held off on the MMVAs this year, especially if there was no chance they'd be able to get A-list talent. Hopefully, this means that next year will be double the fun and jam-packed with celebrity guests.
