Late in the first decade of the 2000s, there was a sudden surge in the popularity of vampire shows and movies. The Twilight franchise took off, and even with its four books and five movies, it still wasn't enough to satisfy viewers; like a vampire on the hunt for blood, they needed more. One of the many series to come out around this time was The Vampire Diaries, which started in 2009 and consisted of eight very twisted and dramatic seasons. The show eventually came to an end in 2017, but to this day, loyal fans still stream it on Netflix and support the cast in their new endeavours. Luckily for those fans, something new is coming soon - V Wars on Netflix Canada stars Vampire Diaries actor Ian Somerhalder.

Just yesterday, October 30, Netflix released the first photos of a new series they've been working on called V Wars, which is based on the best-selling books of the same name by Jonathan Maberry.

If you're not familiar with the storyline, the show will follow Dr. Luke Swann (played by Ian Somerhalder), who finds his best friend, Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) plagued with a mysterious disease that turns him into a predator that's hungry for humans.

As the disease begins to spread to other humans, the world ultimately falls apart, pitting the healthy people against the ill. Upon doing some research, Dr. Swann finds out that the evil force he's up against is, of course, vampires.

It's been a while since Somerhalder put on his fangs to play his role in The Vampire Diaries, so it will be interesting to see how he takes on being the leader of the humans who are fighting the blood-sucking vamps.

V Wars has no official trailer yet, but it does have a release date of December 5. There's still quite some time before Somerhalder takes over your TV screens, so be sure to tune into Netflix's new November releases while you wait.
