Netflix's Newest Romance Series Is A Modern Day 'Sex And The City'

Move over, Carrie Bradshaw! A new writer is taking over the small screen in the upcoming series called Valeria on Netflix. The original show is set to premiere next month, and it’ll blow your mind just how similar to Sex and the City it is.
Earlier today, the streaming service released the trailer for Valeria, which is based on the beloved novels by Elisabet Benavent. The series follows a young writer who finds herself in crisis not only due to a creative block, but also because of her marriage to Adrian, and the emotional distance she’s created between her and her three best friends.
When things get really tough, she finds refuge in reuniting with Lola, Carmen, and Nerea, all three of whom support her. The group of friends experiences things like love, friendship, jealousy, infidelity, doubts, disaffection, secrets, work, worries, joys and dreams about the future together, making them stronger than ever before.
Valeria stars Diana Gómez (Bloody April Fools), Ibrahim Al Shami (Jaulas), Maxi Iglesias (Despite Everything), Silma López (Private Sales), Paula Malia (If I Hadn’t Met You), and Teresa Riott (Barcelona Summer Night).
According to the Slanted, Benavent served as a creative consultant for the Netflix adaptation of her novels, so here’s to hoping the two will be consistent in quality.
Valeria is a Spanish-language show, meaning that viewers who aren’t fluent in the language will have to rely on subtitles or dubs to understand the storyline.
In the past, many of Netflix’s international projects have been praised by English speaking viewers, including, , and , just to name a few.
The content lineup for May hasn’t been revealed by the streaming service quite yet, but it’s already looking like it’ll be stacked. Shows like Hollywood, The Eddy,, and season two of have been announced, with more on the way.
Several new movies will also be coming to the platform, including the teen romantic comedy,, and the David Spade-led comedy, The Wrong Missy.
