During the Christmas season, TV networks and streaming platforms fill our screens with Hallmark movies that make their audience cringe like they never have before. While a lot of people love the cheesiness factor that comes with movies like A Christmas Prince, others find it unbearable. There are comedic holiday films they can turn to, but there are only so many. However, there are Christmas movies on Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime that skip the cringe.

While they may be untraditional, these next few movies will still do the trick of getting you into the Christmas spirit without being overwhelmed with tinsel and romance.

Mean Girls

Rating: 84% on Rotten Tomatoes

Tina Fey created Mean Girls to show how ridiculous (and hilarious) teen angst can be at times, but she also created one of the most memorable Christmas scenes ever.

The comedy has nothing to do with Christmas, but the dance "the plastics" put on at their winter talent show to Jingle Bell Rock is now iconic and has been recreated so many times.

The movie is definitely worth the watch each Christmas just for that scene.

You can watch it on Netflix Canada here

Harry Potter

Rating: 88% on Rotten Tomatoes

Harry Potter may be about Wizards, Dark Curses, and House-elves, but each one of the eight movies never skipped a Christmas.

Whether it was Christmas at the Weasleys or at Hogwarts it was always magical.

If you don't have time to watch the entire series, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, is your best bet for Christmas vibes just because of the beautiful Yule Ball!

You can watch the final four parts of the franchise on Netflix

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Rating: 95% on Rotten Tomatoes

Don't let the fact that The Nightmare Before Christmas has Christmas in the title mislead you. Jack Skellington is the King of Halloween Town and he has no good intentions when he stumbles through the door to Christmas Town.

It's worth the watch if you're looking for a more spooky Christmas vibe!

You can watch this film on Disney+

Gremlins

Rating: 84% on Rotten Tomatoes

Gremlins is also for those looking for a Christmas with some spooky season inspiration.

The movie does take place at Christmas and follows a salesman after the perfect Christmas gift for his son. But his son gets more than just your average pet for Christmas.

You can watch Gremlins on Amazon Prime

Die Hard

Rating: 93% on Rotten Tomatoes

Die Hard, while it does take place on Christmas Eve, is anything but a cheery movie. When a police officer visits his ex-wife and daughters for Christmas in New York things take a turn when a Christmas party is overtaken by terrorists.

You can watch Die Hard on Amazon Prime

Jumanji

Rating: 54% on Rotten Tomatoes

There's since been a reboot of this iconic film, but this version remains the only one that takes place at Christmas.

The movie does constantly jump between timelines but ultimately resolves itself with the happiest of endings at Christmas.

If you haven't watched Jumanji, it follows a magical game that requires it's players to experience the game's rules in real life.

You can watch Jumanji on Amazon Prime

Little Woman

Rating: 96% on Rotten Tomatoes

Out of all the movies on the list, Little Women follows your classic Christmas movie scenario the most.

The film follows the March sisters struggling with societal norms, romance, their aunt, and each other in Mid-19th century America.

It also happens to follow their family throughout the Christmas season.

You can watch Little Women on Netflix
