Disney Is Releasing A Dark, Twisted Version Of The Nutcracker And It Looks Absolutely Incredible
The trailer gives us our first glimpse of The Nutcracker and the Four Realms.
Just in time for the holidays, Disney has released the first trailer for The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, and it looks absolutely incredible.
Directed by Lasse Hallström, the brand new adaptation of the classic tale from 1816 stars Mackenzie Foy (who you might recognize as Bella and Edward's daughter in Twilight) as Clara.
All she wants is a missing key that will unlock a box, which holds a priceless gift from her late mother. Her godfather, Drosselmeyer (Morgan Freeman - we don't need to explain what he's been in), presents her with a golden thread at her family's annual holiday party. The thread leads Clara to the coveted key as she finds herself transported to a parallel world.
"It's Christmas Eve: A time of mystery, expectations," Drosselmeyer teases in the film's trailer. "Who knows what might happen?"
The film largely takes place in a strange and mysterious world, which is home to Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers, and Land of Sweets. But Clara enters the Fourth Realm (hence the name of the movie). There she finds the Sugar Plum Princess, played by Keira Knightley, and a tyrant called Mother Ginger, played by Helen Mirren, and her gang of mice, who hold the key to Clara's escape.
It may be a bit dark and twisted, but hey, what Disney adaptation isn't these days?
