As a kid, I would always see my mom watching the most cringe-worthy soap opera shows (think Days of our Lives and General Hospital) and I couldn't help but wonder what the appeal even was. The acting was bad and the storylines were almost always cheesy, so why even bother watching?! The older I get though, the more I've come to enjoy the occasional soapy series. If you're in the same boat as me, Netflix has a new series you may want to check out! But first, let's find out - is What/If on Netflix good?

The series stars actress Renee Zellweger (you may recognize her from classics like Bridget Jones' DiaryChicago, and Down with Love). She's been on a Hollywood hiatus for the past few years, but she's back and better than ever in her collaboration with Netflix.

Zellweger plays the role of Anne Montgomery, a woman who stops at nothing to get what she wants. We also meet Lisa and Sean Donovan (played by Jane Levy and Blake Jenner), a young couple who are happily married, but financially limited. They have a dream to get their medical startup up and running but are out of options to find the money.

Cue Montgomery, who's willing to give the couple the $80 million they need to pursue their dreams - but it comes at a cost. In exchange for the money, she wants one night alone with Sean, and Lisa is left to contemplate what she's willing to sacrifice in exchange for success.

The show was released on Netflix today, May 24th, and people on Twitter already have plenty to say about it.

Like most soap operas, people are saying that What/If is so bad that it's addicting. The plot is full of twists and turns and the sheer evilness of Zellweger's character will have you hooked from her initial monologue.

The series is 10 episodes long, ranging from 45 minutes to an hour in length. If you want to check out the trailer before bingeing the show, you can do so below.
