In case you travelled far away on a tropical vacation this winter and simultaneously unplugged from Netflix, you may not know that an amazing new TV show premiered on the streaming platform and it has quickly become the most talked about show across Canada. Everyone and their moms are watching You on Netflix and it's seriously good.
If you're one of the millions of viewers that binge-watched the entire season in just a few days, then you'll be excited to hear that Netflix's You is officially getting a second season. Yep, you can expect another thrilling season starring Penn Badgley.
If you missed it, You is a brand new Netflix Original series starring Gossip Girl's Penn Badgley and Pretty Little Liar's Shay Mitchell. Even though many fans have compared Badgley's character as being too similar to Dan Humphrey from Gossip Girl, the story itself is unique and unlike any other!
The series follows the story of a creepy bookstore manager, Joe Goldberg played by Penn Badgley who meets an unsuspecting woman, Guinevere Beck in his store and quickly begins stalking her in hopes of making her fall in love with him. The show is thrilling, creepy and super addicting.
Netflix quietly announced that the show would be getting a second season when they posted on their official Instagram page that a second season would be coming soon. The bio of the Instagram account @YouNetflix reads, "Follow for follow? All episodes of YOU now on @netflix. Season 2 coming soon."
There you have it, it's officially coming soon. But we obviously need to know more than just that. If you're interested in finding out some theories and hints about what's coming next season, keep reading.
According to Daily Express, season two is now in production and it was renewed by Lifetime. The series originally premiered one episode per week on Lifetime in the United States this September, but it didn't receive rave reviews until the entire season was released on Netflix in December.
If you're curious about what happened in the finale of season one, here are some spoilers and theories about what can be revealed in season two. If you didn't already know, next season will reportedly follow the storyline of Caroline Kepnes' novel Hidden Bodies which was the sequel to You, the book that the first season was adapted from.
It's likely that the next season of You will also have around 10 episodes, similar to the first season. If you're wondering who'll be starring in next season, it's unclear which cast members will be returning considering how many people died in the first ten episodes.
It's obvious that Penn Badgley will be returning as Joe Goldberg in season two, there's no doubting that. The season ended on a huge cliffhanger and there's still so much to know about Joe that we'll likely explore in the second season.
It's suspected that Joe will meet a new set of characters in the following season. However, the co-creator of the show, Sera Gamble stated that Badgley's character is definitely worried that Peach Salinger's family has hired people to investigate her alleged suicide. There's definitely potential that we will see this storyline brought up again in season two.
She also said that "If you look at every act of violence that he does in season one, that is potentially something that could come back and bite him. And Dr. Nicky is in prison and he is ardently protesting his innocence." She also said that it's too soon to say if John Stamos' character will be in season two but they're "excited to keep telling that story".
According to reports, season two will likely follow Badgley as he moves to Hollywood to build a new life for himself as he searches for love... again. The finale also dove into Joe's traumatic childhood and that there was a man that groomed him as a child, which explains why he has violent tendencies.
Another question that fans have is whether or not Candace, Joe's ex-girlfriend will return for season two. This is still unclear since we're not entirely sure what happened with Candace and her family. In season one, it's revealed that Candace cheated on Joe with her agent, Elijah and that Joe retaliated by pushing Elijah to his death.
Still, Candace's whereabouts are unclear. Candace didn't leave any family behind apart from her brother who's mentally ill and who recently died. Even though there's nothing in Hidden Bodies that suggests Joe killed her brother, the TV series should develop their own storylines apart from the original novel.
You can watch season one of You on Netflix right now.
