If you're looking for a new Netflix show to waste time watching, look no further.
The streaming site's new series The Punisher comes out this weekend, and not only does it look incredible, it's also being dubbed 'the best Marvel show ever'. And with superhero mega-hits like Defenders and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D already out, that's a big statement.
But at a glance, the new series doesn’t fit with the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. And maybe that's why it works so well.
Frank Castle - an ex-marine who becomes a one-man army after his family is murdered in cold blood - is not a superhero. He's the textbook definition of an anti-hero, and using lethal violence for his vigilante ways, he's a hard character to swallow in 2017, but according to the show's reviews, that's why people love it. Frank Castle is a psychopath, but he's a psychopath you really care for.
The Punisher is being called the best Marvel series to date set within the fictional Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) because it does its own thing.
The show was already one of MCU's most highly-anticipated projects, and the newly-released trailer only shoots fans' excitement higher threw the roof. The new series looks like a perfect adaptation of the gritty Marvel anti-hero.
The show looks incredible, but it does rely on some prior knowledge obtained from Daredevil season 2, another Marvel/Netflix series, so you may want to get into that first.
Canadians can start streaming The Punisher on November 17th.
