We’ve seen the age of John Hughes rom-coms and we’ve seen the rom-coms it inspired. Now, we're finally getting a mainstream young adult rom-com and it looks absolutely amazing.
Love, Simon is a coming-of-age and coming-out story for a 17-year-old teenager, who’s grappling with how to tell his family and friends that he’s gay. At the same time, he’s falling in love with Blue, the pen name of his mysterious online correspondence.
The dramady echos a John Hughes romantic comedy with a storyline similar to a modern-day, high school version of You've Got Mail, and boasts a stellar ensemble of actors, including Jennifer Garner, Josh Duhamel, Nick Robinson and "13 Reasons Why" Golden Globe nominee Katherine Langford in her first film.
The film is based on Becky Albertalli’s best-selling novel Simon vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and also features a star-studded soundtrack that has gained almost as much praise as the movie itself. Artists include MØ, Whitney Houston, Jackson 5 and Bleachers.
Love, Simon will open in Canadian theatres on March 16.
