Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley are clearly really good at their jobs, considering what Nina just told us about their time on The Vampire Diaries. Although their characters were together on the show for three years, it was far from loving between the two off set. Nina Dobrev reveals she and Paul Wesley despised each other

The Vampire Diaries ran for eight years from 2009-2017 and we're happy to report that most of the cast still hang out. Nina Dobrev recently did an interview on former Vampire Diaries cast members, Candice King's and Kayla Ewell's, podcast. She talked all about the early days on set.

The most shocking part of the interview is when she admits that she and Paul Wesley didn't get along well for the first 5 months, “Paul and I didn’t get along at the beginning of the show. I respected Paul Wesley, I didn’t like Paul Wesley.”

She also talks about how she thinks the chemistry people saw between the two of them was actually them despising each other:

“I remember everyone would walk up to me after the show aired and they’d be like, ‘Are you and Paul dating in real life?’ Everyone thought that we had such good chemistry. I realize now that there’s a fine line between love and hate and we despised each other so much that it read as love but we really just didn’t get along the first five months of shooting.”

To say their relationship improved over the years is an understatement. The two see each other more often than anyone else from the cast, "We ended up getting to a good place and it was fine. Of everyone, I think I probably see him the most and hang out with him the most. We’re probably the closest. We hang out a lot. We’re really good friends."

It's ironic that their characters didn't end up staying together for the rest of the series. Instead, Nina Dobrev's character, Elena, ended up with the co-star she did actually date for three years during the shows run, Ian Somerhalder. The two ended up breaking up with each other but they all still remain close friends!
