The show has already posted to their Instagram account with the following caption.

β€œWe are forever grateful to our fans for their support of The Big Bang Theory during the past twelve seasons. We, along with the cast, writers and crew, are extremely appreciative of the show’s success and aim to deliver a final season, and series finale, that will bring The Big Bang Theory to an epic creative close.” - Warner Bros. Television, CBS and Chuck Lorre Productions

In August of last year, Lorre told The Hollywood Reporter that the 12th season seemed like a natural place to end the story of Sheldon, Penny, Leonard, Howard, and Raj. Of course, fans have grown fond of Bernadette and Amy too, leaving them now wondering how life will be without the show airing on CBS.

But, Warner Brothers Television has promised fans that it will be a finale worth watching. Considering the show is ending on their terms, it allows them to create a storyline that feels right to the cast.

Season 11 of Big Bang finished with Sheldon and Amy finally getting married. During the episode, it set up an illusion that the couple would have a new scientific breakthrough, and fans were led to believe that it would be the plotline for the next season.

Every show must come to an end, but it's always nice when it happens on the cast's terms. Season 12 of The Big Bang Theory will be airing on Monday, September 24 on CBS.
