It's official. Woodstock is happening again! This year is the 50th anniversary after the legendary Woodstock festival took place in Upstate New York. There were 32 acts and some of the biggest names in music performed. Think Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Grateful Dead and The Who! Luckily for us, the generation who can't get enough Coachella, we get to relive the Summer of Love in 2019.
The event will take place at the Bethel Woods Center for the Arts in New York. It's a concert venue built right on top of the original site of Woodstock in the summer of 1967. Back then, the Woodstock Music and Arts Fair brought more than 400,000 people out to a farm in Upstate New York! For reference, about 125,000 attend Coachella.
Rumours are flying about who will be performing this year, but there's still no official line-up. Expect more than music at this new festival! Since it's celebrating the anniversary of Woodstock, there will be TED-style talks about the history and cultural significance of Woodstock plus galleries and retrospectives. One exhibit, called 'We Are Golden: Reflections on the 50th Anniversary of the Woodstock Festival and Aspirations for an Aquarian Future,' will be really appealing to music nerds!
The Bethel Woods Music and Culture, AKA Woodstock reborn, will take place on Friday, August 16 to Sunday, August 18. Look out for more details to be released in the near future and good luck to those hoping to snag tickets!
