Update as of 9:30 EST on March 13, 2019: Some Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp users are beginning to experience regular service again. The reasons for the service outage are still unknown at the time of this update.

Users across the world are flipping out after not one, but two of the biggest social media platforms began experiencing service and network issues. Facebook and Instagram are down right now and Twitter is reacting in the most hilarious way ever. Based on the reactions, it looks like many users are migrating from Facebook and Instagram to Twitter to get their social media fix and figure out what is going on!

Facebook and Instagram have been down for users all around the world for several hours since it was first reported at around 9 AM PT, according to CNET. Now, people are even reporting issues with Whatsapp as well. People are saying that Facebook is now telling some users that the platform is down due to "maintenance". A Facebook spokesman also told The Mirror, "There’s a global severe issue at the moment. Our engineers are investigating urgently, will let you know when we hear more."

Even Facebook itself has gone onto Twitter to announce the outage. "We’re aware that some people are currently having trouble accessing the Facebook family of apps," they wrote in a tweet. "We’re working to resolve the issue as soon as possible."

People are furious that both social media platforms have been down for a relatively long time. Many have now taken to Twitter not just to confirm the outage, but to express their frustrations and their most savage, hilarious thoughts. #facebookdown and #instagramdown are now evening trending topics on Twitter in Canada.

This isn't even the first the platform has encountered a major outage. Just a few months ago in November, Facebook went down and it was due to a test by the company. 

Facebook is the biggest social media platform in the world, so a global outage would affect millions. It has over two billion monthly active users around the planet. Instagram, which is also owned by Facebook, has one billion monthly active users.
