Fans Think That Netflix May Have Changed The Ending Of ‘The Notebook’

As someone who's a big romantic at heart, I'll fully admit that I love The Notebook. It's one of those movies that I watch whenever I'm feeling lonely, or just need to be reminded that love really does exist - it really never gets old. If you've seen the movie, you'll know yourself that the ending is totally heartbreaking, but that's just part of what makes it so good. However, fans think that Netflix may have changed the ending of The Notebook.

If you haven't seen the movie, there are some spoilers ahead, so you may want to stop reading. If you have seen the movie though, read on!

At the end of The Notebookwe all know that Duke and Allie embrace in bed as an elderly couple as Allie finally remembers him as Noah before they die, peacefully together. This is the scene that makes us all cry endless amounts of tears, so obviously we remember it well.

Fans are now noticing though that the ending of The Notebook on Netflix is a little bit different. Instead of showing the couple passing away together in bed, it's been replaced with a much more ambiguous shot of birds flying over a lake, likely to parallel the classic "if you're a bird, I'm a bird" line. A lot of people are seriously outraged about the change:

I'm not big into romantic movies but I have seen #thenotebook and @netflix what you did wasnt ok that ending was beautiful it's all I can ever hope for in my marriage so when I finally eat dirt I can go with the one I love dont you dare take that away! Put it back!

PSA: I think we should all halt our political agendas and disagreements to come together and take all of that hate and anger to Netflix for their "alternate" ending of The Notebook.

Who’s responsible for cutting the notebook ending out on Netflix, I just wanna talk xxxx

It's clear that there's some obvious outrage amongst the masses. Apparently, Netflix didn't edit the ending at all though. The version that's available on Netflix is the version that was sent to them from the studio, so the most likely explanation is that several cuts of the film were made, and this version is the one that the studio chose to give Netflix rights to.

At the end of the day, it's still the same sappy, heart-wrenching movie that we all love to watch, regardless if you see Noah and Allie pass away together or not. If the change in the ending is enough to make you never watch it again, at least you have plenty more romance movies to watch on Netflix.
