It has already been a couple of weeks since entering a new decade, but the celebrations are only just beginning for Lunar New Year. This Saturday, January 25, is the start of the Chinese New Year, with Canadians getting ready to celebrate the Year of the Rat — the first zodiac animal in the 12-year cycle, representing the beginning of a new day, signifying wealth and surplus.
Starting at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, January 26, CF Richmond Centre is hosting a Lion Dance and eye-dotting ceremony. At 6:00 p.m., the centre will host a Chinese dance academy performance.
Similar Lunar New Year celebrations will be hosted at Vancouver's CF Pacific Centre, on Friday, January 31 at 3:30 p.m. CF Pacific Centre and CF Richmond Centre will host the traditional Lion Dance and Lion eye-dotting ceremony, a traditional dance performance. In other words, you don't want to miss it!
Oh yeah, and did I mention the Lucky Red Pocket giveaway? CF Pacific Centre and CF Richmond will be handing out red pockets which is a Lunar New Year tradition!
