France Asks The World For Their Help To Rebuild Paris' Notre Dame Cathedral After Devastating Fire

The world was heartbroken to learn today that the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris had been seriously damaged by an intense fire. Despite many firefighters battling the blaze, the fire lasted for several hours. Locals and people from countries around the world have been mourning the iconic, historic monument. Now, France is launching an international campaign to rebuild the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris

Emmanuel Macron, the president of France, announced today while he was on the scene of the fire, that he will be asking the world for their help to rebuild the Notre Dome Cathedral, through the launch of an international fundraising campaign. 

“I’m telling you all tonight — we will rebuild this cathedral together. This is probably part of the French destiny. And we will do it in the next years," said Macron, according to CNN. "Starting tomorrow, a national donation scheme will be started that will extend beyond our borders."

He also posted a tweet about rebuilding the Paris cathedral one hour ago and said in it, translated to English, that "...we will rebuild it. All together. This is part of our French destiny. I am committed to this..."

Earlier today, he also said in another tweet, "Notre-Dame is aflame. Great emotion for the whole nation. Our thoughts go out to all Catholics and to the French people. Like all of my fellow citizens, I am sad to see this part of us burn tonight.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of Paris has withstood multiple wars and the French revolution. As our hearts break to see it burn now during the holiest week of the year, knowing the holy relics are safe gives us some comfort. The Notre-Dame de Paris will rise again. #NotreDame

The French President said that he will launch the international fundraising campaign to rebuild the Notre Dame tomorrow. Many people from around the world, including Canadians, have been sending their condolences amidst the devastating incident.

The Paris prosecutor’s office is now investigating the fire. The devastating fire lasted for several hours and hundreds of firefighters were battling the blaze.

When the fire broke out, several people in the cathedral were attending a mass service. Visitors and locals had to be evacuated from the building.
