A Canadian Country Star Is Now Running For The Conservatives In The Next Election

It's starting to look like celebrity political candidates are becoming a popular trend when it comes to elections in North America. In most recent news, Canadian country music star George Canyon has announced that he will be running for the Conservative party in Nova Scotia for the upcoming election. However, many Canadians don't seem to be too pleased that the superstar will be in the running.

George Canyon is a well known Canadian country star who has won several Juno and Canadian Country Music Association Awards. If you aren't much of a country fan, you may also recognize him as the star who currently signs the national anthem at the Calgary Flames home games.

However, it looks like Canyon wants to add more than just country awards to his resume, as he has announced that he will be running as a Conservative candidate for Central Nova Scotia during the upcoming 2019 elections.

His announcement comes a week after the existing candidate, Roger MacKay, had to drop out of the running for 'personal reasons'.

However, this isn't the first time that the superstar has thought about being part of the federal elections. Back in 2014, Canyon also attempted to run for the conservative party in Alberta, but had to pull out due to a 'health scare'.

Now, the country singer is back in the running again and is ready to represent the Conservative party throughout the election season. However, many Canadians don't seem too pleased to hear about the news. In fact, since the announcement, multiple Canadians have been taking to Twitter to share their opinions.

Some Canadians seem to be focusing on the fact that the star has no prior political experience, while others are claiming that he hasn't lived in Nova Scotia for over 20 years. However, it is unclear if this claim is true.

One Twitter user even went as far as to say, "Terrible choice to push aside four local conservatives to parachute in a guy that hasn't lived in the area for the past 20 years."

While other Twitter users are calling the attempt 'desperate', with one user stating, "You now need the help of has-been country stars? #Desperation."

However, despite some Canadians opinions, Caynon will be showing the province of Nova Scotia exactly what he is fighting for over the next few months as the election draws nearer.

The federal election takes place on October 21, 2019.
