You doing okay, Dr. DeLuca? Giacomo Gianniotti's Grey's Anatomy character found himself in some serious trouble during Thursday night's episode. If you have yet to catch up on the hit medical drama, you'll want to avoid reading the spoilers that lie ahead.
The February 27 episode was titled "Snowblind", and when you see the massive snowstorm that rolled into Seattle, you'll understand why. Good news arrived at Grey Sloan that a liver for a 6-year-old patient in need had become available at the nearby Seattle Pres, but due to the weather, many of the city's roads had been shut down.
With time running out, Dr. DeLuca volunteered to make the journey by foot to collect the organ. When Meredith reminded him that it was -15 with the windchill outside, he rebutted with the fact that he used to be a cross-country skier and was used to the cold temps.
While DeLuca headed out, Meredith and Cormac began to operate on the 6-year-old, bonding over their lost spouses. After some time, DeLuca returned with the liver, only for it to be revealed that he forgot to wear gloves on his mission, leaving his fingers (a surgeon's most prized possessions) in seriously rough shape.
Being the hero that he is, DeLuca insisted that his obvious frostbite was no big deal. However, when Jackson found out about it, he insisted that if DeLuca doesn't follow orders, he could potentially lose one or even both of his hands.
As realistic as the frostbite looked, Gianniotti reassured Grey's Anatomy fans via Instagram that it was all thanks to a bit of makeup magic.
"Hey @greysabc fans! How amazing was last night's episode? Didn’t our gal @imlhk absolutely crush her directing debut? I think so, I sure had a lot of fun with my Boston pal @partysuperhard who did all the special effects prosthetics and makeup for me," he wrote.
"Here are some behind the scenes photos of what went into the look for my hands and face to make me look like I had been in the cold for hours."
