Ever since Ariana Grande's new single 'Thank U, Next" came out, everyone is curious about her love life and what all of those little messages mean in the song. Well, she definitely name drops a few of her exes but it's all love. While Ariana definitely doesn't keep her relationships private, there still may be some relationships of hers that you didn't know existed.
Of course, everyone knows about her latest relationship with Pete Davidson. While that, unfortunately, didn't last, Ariana has made it clear in her new single that she has found love within herself, and that's totally fine for now. So since we probably won't be hearing about her love life for a while, let's take a trip down memory lane.
From May 2018 to October 2018, it seems like all we heard about was Ariana and Pete and for good reasons. Their romance really bloomed fast and they got engaged at the end of June only after dating for a couple of weeks. From a ton of Instagram posts, to Ariana tweeting about their relationship, to her even naming a song after him on her album Sweetener, these two seemed inseparable. However, at the end of October, they called it off and went their separate ways. Pete Davidson is one of the 4 people she shouted out in her new single, saying "Even almost got married. And for Pete, I'm so thankful."
This one hurts. Mac Miller and Ariana Grande met each other in 2012 while recording their single together, "The Way" but didn't start dating until 2016. At the beginning of May 2018, it came out that the two had broken up over hectic work schedules. Unfortunately, Mac Miller passed away from a drug overdose on September 7th, which was devastating for Ariana who then began to write very criptic tweets about how she was doing. This, plus the breakup with Pete, really pushed Ariana over the edge. She also shouted out Mac Miller in her new single saying, "Wish I could say thank you to Malcolm, 'cause he was an angel".
Ricky Alvarez is one of Ariana's former backup dancers, and they started dating in July 2015 and broke up a year later in July 2016. Ariana was actually very quiet about this relationship, telling Billboard that they were 'very happy together' and 'I think that's all anyone cares to know'. Thank U, Next isn't the first song that has been written with Ricky in mind. Even though she says in her new single that she "wrote some songs about Ricky, now I listen and laugh," she also wrote the song Moonlight about her first kiss with him.
There is no bad blood here! In her single, all she has to say about Big Sean is, "Thought I'd end up with Sean, but he wasn't a match." And that's actually true! They started their relationship back in August 2014 and ended it in April of 2015 due to different and demanding schedules. They've always remained friends, and Big Sean has even said that she is still "very special to him."
While they broke up in 2014, the way they got together is nothing but adorable. Jai Brooks and his twin brother Luke actually challenged each other and wanted to see who could get Ariana's attention first. Guess who won? Jai ended up winning her heart in 2012 after putting up a video of why she should date him because who could resist that? While he wasn't mentioned in her new single, I think it's safe to say he made a mark.
This was Ariana's first major relationship, as they were both at beginning points of their careers. She had sought Nathan Sykes out, who is a former member of the band The Wanted, on a red carpet. They later confirmed their relationship in September 2013 after doing a music video together. While it was good for a while, Ariana confirmed in January 2014 on a radio station that they broke up due to the distance, as he is from the UK.
