It may seem like 2020 just started yesterday, but the year is already kicking off with a bang. Last night was the official start to awards show season for the year, and the 2020 Golden Globes best dressed celebrities didn't come to play on the red carpet.

Each year, the Golden Globes honour the very best in movies and television, but like with any other major red carpet, audiences are equally as concerned with what celebrities are wearing as they are with who wins what award.

Although not a ton of Canadian celebrities made it to the big event last night, those that were there definitely dressed to impress. The guys (and even some girls) put together their very best suits for the special occasion and the ladies slipped into some custom made dresses that had fans at home green with envy.

The first big event of the new year can have some interesting choices when it comes to fashion, but it looks like 2020 is off to a smooth start (for your favourite Canadians at least). It'll be interesting to see exactly how the rest of the year and the rest of the decade pans out when it comes to award show looks.

Patrick J. Adams

Canadian actor Patrick J. Adams and his wife Troian Bellisario made a fashionable appearance at the 2020 Golden Globes before calling it a night early and going home to eat some snacks.

"Wore half my wedding dress. Home by 11. Eating ice cream. Happy #goldenglobes2020," the actress captioned her Instagram photo.

Winnie Harlow

Jamaican-Canadian model Winnie Harlow rocked a stunning dress that was customed designed by LaQuan Smith on the red carpet last night.

She paired the look with mesmerizing smokey eyes and some subtle accessories that prove just how fashionable she is.

Emily Hampshire

Schitt's Creek star Emily Hampshire totally killed it on the red carpet last night, and according to her Instagram, she put her look together all by herself, from head to toe.

Not only did the actress do her own hair, nails, and makeup, but she also picked out her own Strike Oil suit and paired it with some awesome Alexander Wang boots and a Stella McCartney handbag.

Ben Mulroney

As a Canadian TV icon, it only makes sense that Ben Mulroney would be covering the 2020 Golden Globes for CTV.

The stylish star rocked a Tiger of Sweden suit, which you'll be able to catch a glimpse of on the etalk recap of last night's event at 7 p.m. EST tonight.

Nina Dobrev

Arguably one of the most stylish Canadians out there is none other than The Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev.

While it doesn't look like the actress attended the actual award show, she did throw on some pink eyeshadow and a strapless dress for her appearance at the after-party where the cameras couldn't get enough of her.

Shay Mitchell

Like Dobrev, Shay Mitchell didn't make it to the award show itself, but she did take a break from the duties of motherhood to spend some time at an afterparty.

The actress got her makeup done by the famous Makeup by Ariel, slid into a sleek and stunning dress, and made it home by 2 a.m. to spend some time with little Atlas before bed.
