Canada, although, smaller in population than America, still has a fair amount of household names in Hollywood. Celebs like Drake, Justin Bieber, Celine Dion, and Shania Twain, all have a fairly well-known reputation of being Canadian. However, there could be some Canadian celebs you didn’t know about.

These well-known A-listers have covered every industry from acting to music, comedy, sports, and one has even had a massive role on Keeping Up with the Kardashians.

Keanu Reeves

Although Keanu Reeves was born in Beirut, Lebanon, he moved to Toronto and became a Canadian at the age of six. 

Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, also known as The Rock has a history with Canada too. Johnson's father is originally from Nova Scotia.

IMDb states that although he grew up in California and attended the University of Miami, his Canadian citizenship allowed him to sign a three-year deal with the Canadian Football League.

Kim Cattrall

The Sex and the City actress was born in Liverpool, England but according to her IMDb page, she immigrated to Canada at only 3 months old. She grew up in Vancouver but attended art school in London until she returned to Canada for university.

She eventually made her way to the Toronto theatre scene before she got contracted by Universal Pictures.

Daniel Gillies

Nina Dobrev isn’t the only Vampire Diaries star who has a Canadian passport. Daniel Gillies was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Although his family did move to New Zealand where he grew up, he never gave up his citizenship.

IMDb states he moved back to Canada in 2001 where he worked as a waiter until eventually making his way to Los Angeles.

Will Arnett

Will Arnett, known primarily for his role in The Mike O’ Malley Show, was actually born in Toronto. His FamousCanadians.org page places his childhood in the 6ix until he made his way to Concordia University in Montreal. From there, he dropped out and made his way to New York where he pursued his acting career.

DEADMAU5

This famous DJ took the music industry by storm back in the mid-2000s. DEADMAU5 also known as Joel Zimmerman was born in Niagara Falls, Ontario. However, he’s known as a "Toronto-based DJ" as stated by All Music.

Joni Mitchell

Folk singer Joni Mitchell was born in Fort Macleod, Alberta back in 1943. According to IMDb, she moved to New York City to pursue her music career where she was first discovered in her early 20s.

Russell Peters

Jim Carrey and Mike Myers are just two of Canada’s hilarious comedians. Russell Peters was born in Toronto but moved to Brampton, Ontario as a child. The Canadian Encyclopedia says that his career started after he spent four years post-high school working on his comedy skills.

He became a Toronto Global Ambassador in 2008 and was inducted into Canada's Walk of Fame in 2011.

Tristan Thompson

Tristan Thompson may not have played for the Toronto Raptors but he is a Canadian basketball player. He grew up in the suburbs of Toronto, according to Biography, before he was drafted in 2011 to the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Cobie Smulders

How I Met Your Mother Star Cobie Smulders was also born in Hollywood North. She was raised in Vancouver, where IMDb says she got her first gigs until she was offered a contract with ABC for her hit comedy.

Eric McCormack

Like many other Canadian celebs, McCormack was born and raised in Toronto where, according to IMDb, he actually attended the same school as fellow celeb Mike Myers.

Post high school, he studied theatre at Ryerson University in Toronto. He then further pursued his career in Vancouver eventually making his way to Los Angeles.
